If you’ve ever looked into wrinkle-relaxing injections, you’ve probably seen a lot of different names thrown around—Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Daxxify—and wondered which one you’re actually supposed to choose.
The short answer? You don’t need to figure that out before your appointment.
These products all fall into the same general category of injectable neuromodulators, often referred to simply as “tox,” but they aren’t identical. Each has its own formulation and characteristics, which gives us different options when planning your treatment.
What Does Neurotoxin Actually Do?
Neurotoxin temporarily reduces activity in the specific muscles where it’s injected.
Think about how many times you raise your eyebrows, squint, smile, or frown throughout the day. Over time, those repeated movements contribute to expression lines becoming more noticeable.
By strategically treating certain muscles, we can soften the appearance of those lines and, depending on your goals, reduce how strongly the muscle is able to create them.
And yes—the muscle I inject is supposed to have less movement. That’s how the treatment works.
The important part is deciding which muscles to treat, how much product to use, and how much movement you want to maintain.
So, What’s the Difference Between Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau & Daxxify?
All four are neuromodulators, but they are different products.
They have differences in formulation, dosing, approved uses, onset, and expected duration. Their units also aren’t necessarily interchangeable, which is why comparing the number of units used between different brands can be misleading.
You may also find that you simply prefer your experience or results with one product over another.
That’s one of the reasons I like having options available at Medley.
Will I Look Frozen?
This is easily one of the biggest concerns I hear from someone considering neurotoxin for the first time.
And this is where dosing and treatment planning matter.
Some people want very little movement in a particular area. Others want their lines softened while maintaining more facial expression. There isn’t one correct preference.
Before treating you, I assess how your face moves, the strength of the muscles we’re considering treating, your anatomy, and what you want your result to look like.
The goal is not to automatically give every person the same number of units in the same places.
How Quickly Will I See a Difference?
Neurotoxin isn’t an instant treatment.
You’ll leave your appointment looking pretty much like yourself, and the effect develops afterward. Exactly when you begin noticing a change can vary based on the product used and your individual response.
I’ll let you know what to expect from the specific neurotoxin you receive so you aren’t checking the mirror the next morning wondering why nothing has happened yet.
How Long Will My Results Last?
This is another question without one exact answer.
Duration can vary based on the product, dose, treatment area, your muscle activity, and your individual response.
If you’ve had tox before, your previous experience can also be helpful when we’re deciding what might make sense for your next treatment.
Which One Should You Choose?
Maybe you already know you love Dysport. Maybe you’re curious about Daxxify. Maybe you’ve always called everything “Botox” and didn’t realize there were other options.
All of those are completely fine.
You don’t need to come into your appointment knowing the differences between every product. Tell me what you’ve tried before, what you liked or didn’t like about it, and what you’re hoping to accomplish this time.
If it’s your first treatment, we’ll start there.
