If you’ve been thinking about lip filler but keep talking yourself out of it because you’re worried about looking overfilled or unnatural, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common concerns I hear from first-time filler patients.
At Medley Health + Beauty in Bellingham, my approach is pretty simple: I want your results to fit your face.
Lip filler doesn’t have to mean dramatically changing the way you look. It can be used to add volume, improve definition, enhance shape, address asymmetry, or simply make a subtle change to what you already have.
What Happens at Your Appointment?
Before we ever start treatment, we’ll talk about what brought you in.
I’ll ask what you like about your lips, what you’d like to change, whether you’ve had filler before, and what kind of result you’re hoping for. Then I’ll assess your lips, facial proportions, symmetry, and existing anatomy.
You’re also welcome to bring inspirational photos. They can be really helpful for showing me what you’re drawn to—even though the goal isn’t to recreate someone else’s lips exactly.
How Much Filler Do You Need?
This is probably one of the biggest questions people have before their first appointment, and there isn’t one standard answer.
The amount of filler used depends on where you’re starting and what you’re hoping to achieve. Sometimes a subtle treatment is enough. Other goals may be better achieved gradually over more than one appointment.
More filler isn’t automatically better, and I’m always going to tell you if I think we should stop, wait, or take a more conservative approach.
What About Swelling?
Yes, you should expect some swelling after lip filler, and bruising is also possible.
This is important because the lips you see immediately after your appointment are not your final result. They can look larger, puffier, or even slightly uneven while swelling is present.
Give them time to settle before judging your result.
If you have a wedding, vacation, photoshoot, or other important event coming up, let me know before scheduling so we can plan your treatment with enough time for healing.
Will I Still Look Like Myself?
That’s the goal.
“Natural-looking” doesn’t necessarily mean that nobody can tell you did anything. It means the result makes sense with the rest of your features.
Some patients want an incredibly subtle change. Others genuinely want fuller lips. Neither is wrong.
What matters is that we’re working toward a result that you actually want and that is appropriate for your anatomy.
What If I’m Nervous?
Tell me!
You don’t need to pretend you aren’t nervous, and you definitely don’t need to know all the terminology before coming in.
Ask questions. Tell me what you’re worried about. Tell me what you absolutely do not want.
Those conversations are part of the appointment, especially if it’s your first time.
